Developing Self-Care and Personal Wellness in Graduate Students in Health Professions
Abstract
University counseling centers are not be able to absorb the high number of students experiencing mental health needs. Simultaneously, self-care is increasingly recognized across health professions as an ethical obligation to decrease risk of burnout. Personalized education approaches at the program or department level may be the most expedient and efficacious method to address student personal wellness. The goal of this project is to develop, implement, and evaluate an evidence-based self-care module across graduate level health sciences professions. Developing a culture of self-care may decrease student distress, improve student academic outcomes, and prime students to practice self-care post-graduation.
